Stilleven met boeket in wording

Dit bloemstilleven is anders dan alle andere, omdat het boeket nog niet af is. De vaas is nog maar half gevuld en een deel van de bloemen ligt nog op tafel. Ongebruikelijk is ook het feit dat de afgebeelde bloemen uit hetzelfde seizoen zijn: anemonen, tulpen, narcissen en akelei bloeien allemaal in het voorjaar.
Dirck de Bray was afkomstig uit een Haarlems kunstenaarsgeslacht. Hij heeft weinig werken geschilderd, maar dit stilleven toont aan dat hij een heel bekwaam schilder was.

The vase is only half full, and some of the flowers are still lying on the table. It is also unusual that all the flowers depicted are from the same season: anemones, tulips, narcissi and columbines all bloom in the springtime.
Dirck de Bray came from a Haarlem family of artists. Although he did not paint many works, this still-life shows that he was a very skilled painter.
